The current version of this website was created in fits and starts, with considerable delays and indecision, between 2020 and 2023. Most ideas spawned while being stuck inside the house. The previous versions are in the bin, and rightfully so.
All design and development was done in-house (literally), and hand-coded using Nova by Panic. Illustrations, icons, and pixel art were created using Procreate, Figma, and Adobe Photoshop. The site is handcrafted and files are managed through Transmit and hosted on Loopia.
The blog on Sailors & Mermaids is running on WordPress because, well, it’s a really great blogging service.
I’ve used responsive design techniques to hopefully ensure the site is nicely readable on lots of devices.
The text on this site is set using typefaces from the various sources. Headlines are set in Gelica by Dave Rowlands from Adobe Fonts, body text is a beautiful typeface called Rotunda by TipoType. The typeface used for the navigation is Ships Whistle by Dan Cederholm, and I did a little happy dance in my chair when I discovered that nautical themed typeface. Support independent type foundries when you can!
This site has been designed with privacy in mind. No sneaky trackers here, my friend. Our server logs? Debugging, nothing more, nothing less. When you share your personal information via the contact page they’re guarded like a treasure so you won’t end up on some mailing list you didn’t didn’t ask for.
